If you were to add up all of the hours you work on daily basis, what do you reckon the figure would be? 36? 40? 48? Here at CV Knowhow, we have an incredibly hard working team of people and have carried out a poll just to see exactly how hard working we are.
And the results were pretty shocking! There are some members of staff who work more than 50 hours a week on running, developing and growing the business; which is actually on a par with one of the world’s savviest business man, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Mr Zuckerberg, who co-founded Facebook in February 2004, is well known for spending up to 10 hours a day actually in Facebook HQ and it is this time he factors in when working out how many hours he works a week.
But he doesn’t count the time he spends out of the office coming up with ideas as hours put into work, as he says this would account for the whole of his life! He evens pops into FBHQ at a weekend to see what new projects his staff are coming up with and to provide his creative input whilst continuing to come up with ideas to connect communities and people.
How much is too much?
So how much can be too much? A standard working contract is between 35 and 40 hours a week, but should it be expected that you will work over and above this for no extra pay? Obviously, there are companies out there that pay staff an overtime rate that has been agreed and that staff are happy with.
But there will always be those in charge who will take advantage – but unless your contract states you will be expected to do overtime, then you categorically don’t have to. And if you do, you are limited to a 48 hour week, which includes overtime.
How do you rate?
How do you and your work colleagues rate on the hard working scale? There are many workers out there who will spend every minute they can in the office and there will be those who are out of the door at 5pm on the dot.
But whatever your ilk, there are millions of workers in the UK who are satisfied with their careers and wouldn’t change their jobs for the world. But for others, they are looking to move roles into something which suits them much better.
