Basic steps of interview preparation
Every Company you interview with is going to want to see that you have taken an interest in them, their products, figures and philosophies. Your CV have a copy with you at the interview;Know answers to all the classic cliché interview questions, it sounds obvious, but many people still use these over and over, you should know these without hesitation, but avoid coming across as over rehearsed. Your sticky subjects.Your weaknesses, What you bring to the Company. What value do you add to the role. What is your USP? Why should they hire you above other Candidates.
- Qualify all interview arrangements. This is especially important if you are crossing time zones or have been set up by a recruiter. They will never be as committed as you at getting times and destinations right for interview. Check and double check .
- Have good communication in place, with the recruiter, if there is one, or with the hiring manger if that is the case. Let them know that you are keen for the role, the company and the opportunity. Keep momentum up right until the interview time.
- If you are working through a recruiter, expect them to do interview prep with you. Be assumptive, demand it. They will know more about the hiring manager than you, from working with them. Expect them to pass on this expertise, explain the Company background and the format of the interview and who will be present etc
- Have correct directions and a plan in place for getting there
- Be sure to factor in local traffic and rush hours etc. Be sure to allow for delays if using public transport. I can’t tell you how many opportunities have crashed and burned because of bad journey planning. If you can do a trial run a few days before.
- Hit industry websites to get a flavour of the current trends in the industry for a bit of background information.
